Assessment is an essential component of physical education (PE), serving to evaluate the learning of students, to direct the decisions that are made about instruction, and to encourage physical literacy. However, due to the one-of-a-kind character of physical education (PE), which places an emphasis on motor skills, physical performance, and personal development in addition to cognitive learning, the process of establishing and implementing effective evaluation methodologies in PE continues to be a difficult and challenging endeavour. The purpose of this study is to investigate the many assessment methods that are utilised in physical education (PE), such as formative and summative assessments, skill performance tests, fitness evaluations, individual and peer assessments, portfolio-based reviews, and more. It provides an in-depth analysis of the most significant issues that educators are confronted with, including the subjectivity of grading, the absence of standardised tools, the restrictions of time, and the lack of proper professional training. At the same time, it draws attention to the increasing opportunities that are made available by digital assessment tools, inclusive assessment methods, and competency-based models that are in line with holistic educational objectives. The research highlights the need of conducting ongoing professional development, providing support for policy, and adopting a balanced approach that places equal importance on qualitative and quantitative evaluation data. In the end, the development of assessment methodologies in physical education has the potential to improve the efficiency of teaching, the level of student involvement, and the overall educational results in the field of physical education.
